The title of this post says it all !! That's right, my brother Cole Howard made it to the US Open in San Francisco, CA at the Olympic Club. When he played in the quailifying tournament he ended up getting the alternate spot. Most of the time nobody misses the US Open so it was unlikely that he would get called for Sectionals. During this time is when my grandmother passed away and she was the only one that kept saying he would get a call for the alternate spot. When the call came we were all in shock, but knew that he deserved to be there ! Cole packed his bag and was off to Maryland to play in the US Open Sectional Qualifer and was one step closer. I remember that day, I was at work and kept checking the scores online and refreshing my internet to see if they had been updated. They would end up only taking the top 7 finishes and we had to wait for what seemed like forever to know for sure if he made it. When the day was done HE HAD MADE IT and he even beat Fred Funk to do it! Everyone back home was sooooo excited and we were all so proud of him. Cole made it back to Texas and the phone started ringing with radio stations and newspapers wanting to interview him. We all had to pinch ourselves so we knew this wasn't a dream :) The preparation began for everyone getting to California, flights were booked, condo was booked and we were ready....we couldn't wait to get there !
We got to Cali and it was so crazy being there at the Olympic Club for the US Open knowing that we would be watching my brother and that he would be playing with the best of the best. We ended up having family passes that would allow us into the players club where all the players would eat meals and hang out before their rounds. The course was very hard and even tough to walk for the spectators. As we walked to each hole I would try and keep up with David, I think he was as nervous as Cole was ! Seeing the grandstands of people along the course and people standing along the ropes 10 people deep was just crazy!! My favorite part of the whole thing was probably watching my little bubba sign autographs, it was so cool seeing the kids look up to him. I know that my little brother will be back at the US Open one day, he was made for it! Here are just a few pictures from the amazing week we had, we are so proud of you Cole !!!!!
